Overview

ย่างเทพ YangThep is a hidden gem nestled in a quiet alley just a short walk from Chong Nonsi BTS station in Bangkok’s Bang Rak district. This modest, air-conditioned spot specializes in authentic Isaan cuisine, known for its vibrant, bold flavors that evoke the northeastern heartland of Thailand. The simplicity of the space creates a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for casual meals or gatherings with friends complemented by occasional live music that enhances the convivial vibe.

The restaurant’s centerpiece is its expertly grilled pork neck, cooked over charcoal to achieve a tender, smoky finish. Paired with a special house-made sauce, this dish stands out as a hallmark of their menu, delivering layers of savory and spicy notes that reflect traditional Thai grilling techniques. Whether enjoyed on its own or served atop steamed rice, the pork neck embodies the robust, umami-rich qualities that Isaan food is celebrated for.

Grilled chicken (ไก่ย่างเตาถ่าน) is another highlight, offered with various seasonings and customizable choices of cuts, from tender skinless pieces ideal for easy eating to juicy, flavorful wings and leg quarters. The Num Tok Gai Yang, a spicy herb salad featuring grilled chicken, chili, shallots, roasted rice powder, and fresh herbs, pairs beautifully with sticky rice, balancing heat and texture with a refreshing yet deeply savory character.

YangThep’s menu embraces authentic northern Thai flavors while occasionally incorporating creative twists, as seen in customer favorites like the grilled pork sausage and inventive somtum variations featuring ingredients like corn and lotus stem. The chef’s skill is evident in dishes such as Pad Thai with large sea prawns and tofu—surprisingly well done and thoughtfully prepared to showcase freshness and texture.

For diners seeking genuine Thai taste within an approachable setting, YangThep delivers a compelling experience. Its location, tucked in a quiet soi yet easily accessible, creates an intimate ambiance away from the city’s bustle. This spot attracts a diverse audience—from locals craving traditional Isaan dishes to adventurous food lovers looking for quality, flavor, and value. The combination of authentic cuisine, well-curated menu, and friendly environment makes ย่างเทพ YangThep a highly recommended destination for an honest, flavorful exploration of Thailand’s northeastern culinary heritage.

A little air-conditioned restaurant hidden away in a small alley yet very short walking distant from Chong Nonsi BTS station (sky train). YangThep is Thai restaurant specializing in Isaan food, the north eastern Thai food. The taste is authentic. The price is affordable which is in the range from 50 to 100 Baht per dish. During my visit, there is a live music making it more right vibe for drinking and friend gathering. Somtom has many version (we order one as corn and other one as lotus stem). The taste is delicious and full of flavours. Grilled chicken has few choices of seasoning. And also you can select part of chicken from tender (no skin, can order by stick, easy to eat), wings (juicy, has skin, serve 5 pieces per set), leg quarter (thigh & drumstick) Spicy herb salad with grilled chicken is yummy, called Num Tok Gai Yang. It contains chili, shallot, smashed roasted rice, and some herbs. This dish matches well with steamed sticky rice. Looking for easy meal with real Thai taste with Thai price, then this can be right place!

Surprise find. This restaurant serves authentic Isaan cuisine + a twist of fusion. I ordered the standard prawn pad thai (havent had one in 3 yrs) and kor moo yang which is a test of the kitchen skills. Didnt disappoint. Pad thai was loaded with beansprouts well washed and hard beancurd (tao kua) and 3 big sea prawns. Kor Moo Yang well grilled, tender silvers Will be back.

A small-looking restaurant hidden in Sathon. The restaurant may look tiny from the outside, yet it offers much more space than it seems. Good food, nice service, lovely price. - recommend food: E-san food, grilled chicken - dessert: recommend trying steamed coconut custard Avoid visiting during weekday launch cause it's quite popular among office workers in the area.
